- Material: alder wood with brushed bark leftover. Treated with food grade oil.
- Care: We always advice you to clean wooden items gently using a damp cloth only, before the first use. Please do not expose the wood to excessive wetness, and never immerse it fully in water! Please do not use disinfectant or hot water. When drying, please do not put on a hater, as this may cause racks in the wood – simply let dry at room temperature.
- For maintenance we suggest to treat the blocks once a year with food grade oil (like linseed or sunflower).
Please be aware that Bikeho wooden toys aren’t made the same way like many other mainstream brands. They are not cut by machines into identical shapes, they are cut by eye. Each piece differs by intention, and the toys are beautifully imperfect and natural, with unique traces of nature. This is what separates them from other toy makers. In addition, most of their products are sanded by hand. The unique variations are proof of quality, NOT defects. Wood grain has changing structures which serve as proof of its natural origins.
About BiKeHo:
Bikeho wooden toys are manufactured in the workshops of Birkenhof (Lebensgemeinschaft Birkenhof), at social-therapeutic community in Northern Germany that looks after and accommodates up to 50 adults who are impaired but are not fully dependent on care. The community, founded in 1953 and based on a park-like site near Lüneburg, has residential buildings as well as different workshops creating a common place of life with a village-like feel. The focus of this community based arrangement is to detect the strengths of each individual person and foster their skills by giving them a safe job with meaningful and fulfilling tasks. Together they create beautifully crafted Waldorf-inspired wooden toys, which do not only spark creativity and foster imagination, but also appeal to all the senses. Their exclusively natural toys are made of sustainably grown alder wood, and treated with vegetable oils – that gives them a light brown colour with a yellow tinge. The bark of the wood is intentionally left on the pieces and brushed that it does not come loose.
