Give a child simple, unstructured materials, and sooner or later they will turn them into something bigger and more complex. The HABA Stabix set does exactly that with nothing more than 150 colourful wooden sticks and eight double-sided illustrated template cards. Children recreate pictures piece by piece, matching colours, noticing directions and gradually discovering how larger forms are built from simple elements: a fire truck, a horse, geometric patterns, one stick at a time.

Some cards call for careful observation and precise placement, building real fine motor control and attention to detail, while others are simple outline shapes that leave more room for independent arranging and interpretation. Three levels of difficulty mean the challenge grows with the child rather than running out.

And once the templates are set aside, the sticks become something else entirely: material for new patterns, invented pictures, and free compositions limited only by imagination.
