Kitpas products are manufactured by Nihon Rikagaku Industry Co, a family business that was founded in 80 years ago in Tokyo, Japan. The company has been making quality art materials ever since then, and their most popular products are Kitpas Chalk and Kitpas Art Crayons. Kitpas Chalk, made from a mixture of limestone-based calcium carbonate and powdered scallop shells, has been born as an answer to an environmental challenge. The huge amount of scallop shells discarded by the Japanese seafood industry were causing threat to the environment, so Nihon Rikagaku Industry Co created a patented chalk production technique recycling this renewable, natural material. In 2005, the company added art crayons to their line, also a new innovative material with several special attributes.
