    About Quelle Est Belle Birdcalls:

Would you like to be able to communicate with the birds and learn to know and recognise them by their songs? You can with the artisan birdcalls, manufactured in a workshop located in Drôme region in South of France. Monsieur Francois Morel and his family have been making these beautiful wooden bird calls for more than 3 decades, with traditional craftsmanship and locally sourced quality materials – mainly beech, pine, leather and different metals, such as brass. Each call is developed to carefully imitate a diverse range of birds, and allow you to talk to them. The bird calls come in a wooden box, with a sketch of the bird on the front. These “nature instruments” are loved by young and old, by families, country walkers, gardeners or ornitholigists all around the world, but also musicians, artists or entertainers like to incorporate them into their work. They are also wonderful educational tools: they are used in schools and in homeschool settings as a practical and interesting way of teaching about wildlife and developing musical awakening in young children. They are also most helpful in different therapies. And of course, most importantly, they are FUN! They will connect you with the natural world around you, they will make you spend more time outside and get to know the natural habitat of your home.

Like any instruments, even very simple ones, you will need to learn to play them to reproduce the right sound and rhythm. It is best to begin with just one or two and practice imitating until you sound like your chosen bird. Our videos might help you to learn just the right way.

Then get into the habit of carrying your birdcalls with you. Remember that birds are most active early in the morning and at dusk unless they are nest-building or feeding their young. At this time it is really important though to avoid unduly disturbing of them. It is better to go birdwatching alone, to be silent and observant. It is an important skill that your children might learn from this experience: to open their eyes, look, keep still, be patient, and perserve. When you see the bird, keep this advice very much in mind. Try to let the bird talk first, or, if you have to make the first move, call it briefly – with a little luck he will reply and the conversation will be on the way.
