Plan Toys products are ethically made in Thailand from sustainable rubber wood, non-formaldehyde glue (which Plan Toys make themselves), organic colour pigments, and water-based dyes. As well as making FSC solid wood toys, some of their product are made of “Planwood” – an ingenious eco material made by compressing sawdust produced in their own factory. All products come packaged in recycled, environmental friendly packaging, and all of their toys conform with the European Directives for Toys (DIN EN 71).

While we endorse independence, and have been trying to include our son from very early on into everyday kitchen work giving him real ingredients and real tools (just like this knife, for instance), we also think there is space and a huge need for imaginative pretend play for small children. No wonder that sliceable vegetables and fruits are always a big hit with toddlers. They can practice their fine motor skills while cooking up a feast for their dolls and teddies, just like Mum or Dad do! Why we especially love this set, though, that unlike other similar sets, they look and feel very real! They don’t only have some very tactile details, but their shape carry a very important message. In the world of uniform, perfect shapes (even when it comes to food!) children learn that wonky and irregular is just as good – if not better!
